UniMy and industry partners award Malaysia’s brightest students with GIPS scholarship

University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UniMy), Malaysia’s premier computer science and Information Technology-focused university, together with its global industry partners has recognised the country’s most talented students by awarding them the UniMy Global Industry Partners Scholarships (GIPS).

The ceremony, witnessed by the Minister of Education II, YB Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh was organised to drive the global benchmark in higher education. Simultaneously, this addresses the shortage of high quality and professional talents in the Information Technology (IT) sector, UniMy in partnership with renowned global IT organisations such as Autodesk, Microsoft, Dell, Huawei, IBM and CSC awarded 11 scholarships to deserving UniMy students as per list attached herewith.

A commendable initiative aimed to close the gap between education-industry in building industry-ready human capital, the UniMy GIPS scholarships provides these students a chance to undergo mentorship and internship which also serves as a pathway to future employment in these respective, renowned IT organisations. Additionally, it also aims to expose the students to real-life working environment in a global organisation as they undergo industrial training and gain valuable skills as well as knowledge to elevate their performance to meet the global benchmarks set by the industry.

Apart from these partnerships,UniMy has also established an academic collaboration with University of Melbourne via its School of Engineering which allows for the adoption of quality control, academic board processes as well as external examinations in the programmes offered by UniMy. Currently, UniMy offers courses in Computer Engineering as well as Computer Software and is looking to introduce up to 8 new courses in the nearest future.

“The establishment of this UniMy GIPS scholarship is an academia-industry partnership and is part of the ‘new knowledge’ hub aiming to transform the higher education landscape and is a part of UniMy’s commitment to bridging the ever increasing supply and demand gap in critical IT areas to provide the nation with a highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce. Moreover, this initiative is also a great opportunity for these industry players to recognise our young minds and talents to lead the industry in the future,” said Professor Datuk Dr. Khairuddin Ab. Hamid, Vice Chancellor of UniMy.

As a strong advocator of providing a holistic approach to education, UniMy has also established strategic partnerships with other global IT partners including Microsoft, Autodesk and EC Council and collaborate in student development activities ranging from curriculum design, teaching & learning (T&L) technology, students’ projects, internships to career placements.

“By establishing a long-term commitment with these industry leaders, UniMy hopes to continue providing our students a holistic education that remains relevant in the industry to encourage the birth of innovators to spur the industry’s and the nation’s development. We hope that by introducing this initiative, it will encourage more industry partners to come forward and join us in providing access to comprehensive IT education and training to our students in the future,” said Professor Datuk Dr. Khairuddin.
