Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the Doctor of Philosophy in Computing, applicants must meet one of the following:

Option 1 — Master's Degree in Computing
  • Hold a Master's degree in Computing or a related field recognised by the UNIMY Senate.
Option 2 — Non-Computing Background
  • Hold a Master's degree in a non-computing field with relevant computing experience, subject to prerequisite courses and assessment as determined by UNIMY.
Option 3 — Equivalent Qualification
  • Hold any other qualification recognised by the Government of Malaysia as equivalent, subject to Senate approval.
English Requirements
  • International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency.
  • Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent is required for applicants whose prior qualifications were not delivered in English.
Assessment Structure
  • Compulsory Coursework — Research Methodology and Academic Writing in Year 1, assessed through reports, assignments, projects, and presentations.
  • Research Component — PhD Research modules 1 through 10 across Years 1 to 5.
  • Research Progress Reviews — ongoing semester-by-semester progress assessment.
  • Research Proposal Defence — formal presentation and defence of the doctoral research proposal.
  • Colloquium and Seminar — presentation of research findings to academic and industry audiences.
  • Thesis Examination, Viva Voce, and Papers Publication form part of the final doctoral research assessment.
